An Identity Assurance Program is a set of measures designed to ensure individuals have the correct identity before accessing resources. This typically involves proving the identity of individuals through authentication mechanisms such as requiring a username and password, access and identity tokens, biometrics, and other factors.
The program also includes policies to control access to resources, and procedural measures to monitor and detect unauthorised access. Rules may be set to limit access to resources only to individuals or systems which have passed through an identity assurance program.
Additionally, there may be rules set to allow or prevent access to certain applications, networks, or locations based on the user's identity or risk rating. Identity assurance programs may also include an element of fraud detection, to prevent the unauthorised access of data or resources.
